LAKE COUNTY – As summer turns into autumn, the opportunity to enjoy locally grown fruits, vegetables, nuts, eggs, and more continue as most farm stands and the Kelseyville Farmers’ Market are still open and offering fresh-from-the-farm products, as well as new opportunities to enjoy and learn about two of Lake County’s favorite agricultural products: pears and wine.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, Chic Le Chef in Hidden Valley Lake will offer the second in the “Lake County Bounty” series with “Pear Celebration: Perfect Matches.” Culinary Instructor Esther Oertel will share the secrets of pairing cheese with different pear varieties grown in Lake County, and participants will get to sample. Wine pairing tips will be offered, and dishes from hors d’oeuvres to dessert that are designed to celebrate the signature qualities of Lake County pears will be demonstrated and tasted.

Throughout the month of October, Teo’s Lakeside Bistro in Nice is offering a food and wine pairing where guests will meet the winemaker. Tapas Thursdays, held each Thursday in October from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. will host High Valley Vineyards, Tulip Hill Winery, Snow’s Lake Vineyards and ends the series with Six Sigma Ranch and Winery.

Guests are seated and served three courses of “tapas” or small plates, each paired with a varietal from the featured winery. Shannon Baker of Cache Creek Catering sets the menu, and is on-hand to assist Chef Ted Herrera, owner of Teo’s, in preparing the dishes. Locally grown products are incorporated and highlighted in the dishes. Reservations are required. Call 707-263-1109.

Herrera also will be on hand offering vegetable chopping demonstrations at the Lake County Farmers’ Finest Tuesday evening market, which is held at the new Kelseyville Lumber, 3555 N. Main St., 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and runs through Oct. 27.

The Kelseyville Certified Farmers’ Market continues on Saturdays at Steele Wines, 8:30 a.m. to noon, through Oct. 31.
