Lakeport Police to mail out dog licensing bills

LAKEPORT – The Lakeport Police Department, Division of Animal Control will be mailing out dog licensing bills in the next few weeks.

Lakeport Police took over licensing for the city of Lakeport from the Lake County Animal Care and Control in late 2008. Currently there are approximately 400 licensed dogs in the city.

This year, for the first time, the license tags will be permanent. While owners will still be billed on a yearly basis, owners will no longer have to change tags.

All licenses are valid from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31 of each year.

If you live in the city of Lakeport and have a dog but do not receive a bill, please call the Lakeport Police Department at 707-263-5491 and they will be happy to send a license form to you. Or you can email the department at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and they will email a form to you.

All bills are due no later than Feb. 28, 2010. A late fee of $15 will be assessed after that date.

Fees for licensing have remained the same this year: $10 for altered dogs and $50 for unaltered dogs. The department has discounted rates for senior citizens, seeing eye dogs, and AKC-registered, breeding, herding and working dogs. All rates are the same as Lake County Animal Care and Control.

For the public's convenience, Lakeport Police will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following Saturdays (for licensing only): Jan. 16, Jan. 30, Feb. 13 and Feb. 27.

For more information call the department at 707-263-5491.
