Westside Community Park Committee invites public input at Feb. 3 meeting

LAKEPORT – Community members interested in helping shape Westside Community Park in Lakeport are urged to attend an upcoming meeting.

The next regular meeting of the Westside Community Park Committee on Wednesday, Feb. 3, will include the opportunity for public input on future development of the regional park.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St.

Dennis Rollins, committee chairman, encourages residents to attend the open meeting and review the components of the park plan.

The park committee recently was awarded a grant of $200,000 from the 2009 Infrastructure Fund of the Stewardship Council, as Lake County News has reported.

These funds will be used for the construction of a regulation soccer field, two smaller soccer fields, a regulation baseball field, and a combination Little League/softball field, helping meet a regional need for sports fields for youth leagues.

The Lakeport City Council has contracted with a grant writer to create an application for funding to complete the 60-acre park, which has been under development for over 11 years.

Bruce Irwin of National Grants Services is preparing an application for funding from Proposition 84, through a competitive statewide park program grant.

Funds received from this program would be used to finish the development of Westside Community Park, accessed from Parallel Drive in Lakeport.

More information about Westside Community Park is available from Rollins at 707-263-7091 or Charlie Jolin, 707-263-4700.
