Farmers' Market season arrives May 1

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake County Farmers’ Finest announced that they are gearing up for the season with opening day on Saturday, May 1, at Steele Wines on Thomas Drive, off Highway 29 between Lakeport and Kelseyville.

Farmers have struggled to get planting done in between all the much appreciated rain and hope to have an abundance of fresh vegetables harvested for you on opening day.

Plan on finding an ever expanding selection every week as the season progresses.

For opening day, expect to find beets, bread, chard, chives, coffee drinks, dinosaur kale, eggs, fig plants, goat cheese, green onions, lettuce, mustard greens, nursery starts, olive oil, parsley, pastries, radishes, Russian kale and turnips, as well as beautiful handmade crafts and jewelry.

Enjoy the lovely setting at Steele Wines every Saturday morning through October, while listening to live music and catching up with your friends and neighbors.

“Like many other communities across the country, we are seeing a growth in demand for locally grown produce and fresh prepared food products,” said Cornelia Sieber-Davis, manager of Farmers’ Finest, a non-profit membership group supporting agriculture in Lake County.

“We are especially looking forward to a great season this year, and we are joining efforts with other groups and organizations to help spread the word about the benefits of buying locally grown, fresh produce,” Sieber-Davis said. “There is just an excitement in the air that we haven’t seen in previous years.”

She said Farmers' Markets offer an important opportunity to eat healthy food and also contribute to the economic health of our community.

Interest in local foods is increasing, and last year saw a dramatic rise in the location and availability for locally grown food. No matter where you live in Lake County, you’ll find a location close to home.
