LAKEPORT – Buying fresh and organic got a little easier, and more enjoyable, with the debut of the new Lakeport Farmers' Market in Library Park on Wednesday.
A cloudy sky yet warm breeze greeted those who stopped by to take advantage of, as well as support, their local growers.
“The city of Lakeport has been very supportive and was kind enough to let us set up on the grass,” said Farmers’ Finest Manager Cornelia Sieber-Davis. “It’s nice because if we set up over the pavement, it can get hot and radiate heat which can wilt the vegetables.”
Among the many missions of Lake County Farmers’ Finest is to increase the profitability and overall health of the agricultural sector of the Lake County economy, as well as help Lake County citizens recognize the value of the products growing in the land they live on.

The thought of rain enticed many shoppers and some vendors to wait until next Wednesday to join in the fun.
Overall, there were seven certified produce vendors, a couple of value-added vendors and a few arts and craft booths.
The certified produce vendors included the Hue De Laroque Farm, Barber Country Farm and Nursery, Love Farm and Lake County Community Co-op, Full Moon Farm, Reggie Dewsnup, Scotts Valley Farm and 2Bee Garden Farm.
Organizers expect next Wednesday to have more vendors and a larger crowd. Future offerings are expected to include bread, cheese, food ready to eat and music.
