LAKE COUNTY – A county juvenile correctional officer was arrested late last week and charged with driving under the influence.
Stephen Richard Shryock, 42, of Lakeport was arrested just before 3 a.m. Friday by California Highway Patrol Officer Dan Frederick, according to Lake County Jail records.
Shryock was charged with driving under the influence and booked into the Lake County Jail, with records indicating he later posted the $5,000 bail and was released.
CHP Officer Joe Wind said that the arrest log didn't show anything out of the ordinary on the arrest. However, he had no further details as Frederick's report was not yet complete on Monday. He anticipated having more information later in the week.
Lake County Chief Probation Officer Meredith Helton said Shryock is a senior juvenile correctional officer and a longterm employee.
“He is not currently on leave, although there will be an investigation, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken,” she said.
Helton emphasized, “It is important to remember he has not been convicted of any criminal charges at this point.”
At the Feb. 16 Board of Supervisors meeting Shryock was among a number of county employees who were honored for longtime service to the county. At that time officials reported he had worked for the county for 15 years.
Jail records indicate that Shryock is set to appear in court on Aug. 9.
On June 15 Lake County Sheriff's Deputy Bryan Smith was arrested for driving under the influence of prescription drugs after crashing his patrol car into a parked vehicle shortly after he began his shift, as Lake County News has reported.
