Charlotte Thistle to appear in Lakeport Saturday

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Singer and songwriter Charlotte Thistle will perform in Lakeport On Saturday, Aug. 7.

The performance will take place at Molly Brennan's Pub, 175 N. Main St., with the time to be announced. Call 707-262-1600 for more information.

Now on her “Wild Wind Homecoming Tour,” Charlotte, the “Canadian Thistle,” lives up to the reputation of her plant totem as a non-native yet hardy species, determined to survive despite adversity.

She has faced many setbacks, including an injury in her early 20s which shattered her dreams of a dance career, and a split with some of her family who didn't approve of her choice to pursue an artistic path.

In spite of this, she has worked hard in the last 10 years to establish herself as a performing songwriter in the Northwestern USA, overcoming many legal and financial obstacles and building a reputation for her catchy melodies, dry wit, sass , “muscular” guitar playing (according to the regional publication Victory Review) and her engaging stage presence.

But as Charlotte sings in the title track of her new album, “Wild Wind,” sometimes you just got to go back home again, and that's what the Wild Wind tour is all about.

Beginning in Oregon and continuing through California, Arizona, Texas and Tennessee, the tour will then carry on north to Charlotte's hometown of London, Ontario, where she expects to play to a full house of old friends she hasn't seen in 20 years.

After revisiting her roots, the tour route turns around to head west again through Kansas, Colorado and Montana.

The album, which has been called a “treasure trove of gems” in Billie Dove's Folkcrunch, begins with one of Charlotte's signature songs, “What If I'd Stayed?” which reflects on an old flame.

The popular tunes, “Long White Line” and “Keep On Going” relate some amusing road adventures, and other highlights of the album include the much loved, “Island,” “What A Girl's Gotta Do” and “Lap of Luxury,” a tongue-in-cheek number about Charlotte's beloved kitty, Arwen.
