Council holds regular, special budget meetings this week

LAKEPORT – The Lakeport City Council will hold a special meeting Monday afternoon to begin going over the proposed budget for the 2007-08 fiscal year.

The city's budget workshop will convene at 2 p.m. Monday at the city council chambers. The meeting is open to the public.

The council is expected to spend several hours reviewing the proposed budget, and will then continue the workshop on 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28.

The City Council will hold a regular meeting at 6 p.m. the following day, Tuesday, Aug. 21.

Items on the regular council agenda include:

  • A rate study for Lakeport's municipal sewer district.

  • Consideration of a “catastrophic leave policy,” which would allow employees to donate accrued leave time to another employee facing an extended absence from work due to serious illness.

  • A review of a right-of-way deferral request from Melissa Borg, who is applying for a conditional use permit for a daycare/preschool on North High Street. Borg has asked the city to defer requirements for sidewalk and driveway approach improvements because it would cause her a financial hardship.

  • A closed session discussion of the Vista Point Shopping Center negotiations.

Both meetings will be held in the council chambers at Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St.
