Series of candidates' debates, forums planned for next week

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – A series of debates and forums for candidates in races around Lake County will take place Sept. 27 through 30.


The debates will be televised and available for online broadcast.


The following are capsules on the debates, their sponsors and how to submit questions.



Sheriff candidates' debate: Monday, Sept. 27


A debate on Monday, Sept. 27, will feature sheriff's candidates Francisco Rivero and Rod Mitchell.


The debate will take place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors chamber at the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes St., Lakeport.


The format will be a Lincoln-Douglas style debate with the candidates questioning each other. There will be a small amount of time set aside at the beginning of the evening to ask the candidates general questions submitted before the event starts.


The Lake County Chamber of Commerce, Lake County News, Lake County Farm Bureau and Lake County Association of Realtors are sponsoring the event. Velocity Video Online will provide videography services.

Lakeport City Council candidates' forum: Tuesday, Sept. 28


A forum for candidates seeking seat on the Lakeport City Council will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 28, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., in the council chambers at Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St.


So far, four of the seven candidates have confirmed their attendance, according to Lake County Chamber Chief Executive Officer Melissa Fulton.


The forum is co-hosted by the Lake County Chamber of Commerce and Lake County News.

Clearlake City Council candidates' forum: Wednesday, Sept. 29


A forum for Clearlake City Council candidates will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the council chambers at Clearlake City Hall, 14050 Olympic Drive.


The event is sponsored by the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce with assistance from Lake County News.

District attorney candidates' debate: Thursday, Sept. 30


District attorney candidates Don Anderson and Doug Rhoades will meet for a debate on Thursday, Sept. 30, in the Board of Supervisors chambers at the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes St., Lakeport.


The format will be a Lincoln-Douglas style debate with the candidates questioning each other. There will be a small amount of time set aside at the beginning of the evening to ask the candidates general questions submitted beforehand.
