CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clearlake City Council has moved its regular Thursday meeting to this Friday morning, at which time the council will consider appointing an interim city administrator.
The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, in the council chambers at Clearlake City Hall, 14050 Olympic Drive.
City Administrator Dale Neiman tendered his resignation Nov. 4, on the same day as Clearlake Police Chief Allan McClain announced he was retiring, as Lake County News has reported.
Neiman's last day is Thursday, according to his contract.
One of his reports to the council for the Friday meeting says that city rules require the appointment of an acting city administrator. Previously, McClain had been designated the interim city manager, Neiman said.
The city could appoint McClain temporarily, but with McClain set to retire Dec. 30, the city must begin looking for Neiman's long-term replacement.
As part of Neiman's leaving the city, the council must designate additional signers on the city's commercial bank accounts, as well as the city's and redevelopment agency's local investment fund.
The council also will consider whether or not to participate in the county's marketing program.
Also on the agenda is a proposal that the city extend the fiscal year 2009-10 redevelopment agency budget until the 2010-11 fiscal year budget is adopted for the agency.
Neiman's report said staff shortages have prevented the redevelopment agency budget from being completed, and he also noted that the agency's direction and priorities in the future “will most likely change.”
In other news, the council will consider executing a consent decree with Grant and Marilyn Meyer, who sued the city over a code enforcement case.
The settlement agreement includes the city paying the Meyers $50,000 in damages, with the Meyers required to abate the property, according to Neiman's report. If the property isn't abated, the city may move forward with the cleanup process itself.
The council also will present a proclamation to Clear Lake Observer-American reporter Denise Rockenstein in celebration of the newspaper's 75th anniversary.
