LAKEPORT, Calif. – A Lakeport man was arrested over the weekend in connection with the alleged burglary of a home, with police believing the suspect may also have been involved in mail thefts reported earlier this month.

Acting Lakeport Police Chief Brad Rasmussen said officers arrested Anthony James Aitchison, 21, outside of a residence in the 200 block of Hillcrest Drive on Dec. 11.

At 12:25 a.m. that day Lakeport Police units were dispatched to the home to investigate the report of a prowler, Rasmussen said.

During the investigation, officers located Aitchison outside of the residence but on the premises. Rasmussen said officers continued their investigation and determined that Aitchison had allegedly made entry into the garage prior to their arrival.

It's believed that Aitchison was interrupted by the homeowner and that he was attempting to flee the location as the police units arrived on scene, Rasmussen said.

Rasmussen said officers located items of evidence on Aitchison’s person that connected him to the entry of, and theft of items from, a vehicle in the 400 block of Fairview Way. He said the department is investigating the possibility that Aitchison tampered with or entered other vehicles in the area of Fairview Way or Hillcrest Drive.

In addition, Rasmussen said police believe there is a possibility that Aitchison may have been involved in the multiple incidents of mail theft reported on Dec. 3 in the area of Lakeport Terraces on Fairview Way.

Aitchison, a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Youth Authority parolee with a commitment offense of robbery, was booked into the Lake County Jail on charges of burglary, prowling, trespassing, possession of a controlled substance and violation of parole, Rasmussen said. Aitchison is being held without bail.

The Lakeport Police Department is continuing to investigate these incidents and asks that anyone with information contact the agency at 707-263-5491.
