LAKEPORT, Calif. – A Kelseyville man facing attempted murder and assault charges was in court on Monday, but he did not enter a plea.

Andrew James Serrano, 38, was set for further arraignment proceedings in Lake County Superior Court after an initial appearance last week, as Lake County News has reported.

Serrano is alleged to have shot 41-year-old Willy Turner of Kelseyville once in the chest during a confrontation on Saturday, Sept. 10.

According to the investigation, after shooting Turner, Serrano is alleged to have assaulted his estranged wife, Lesa Serrano, who had gone with Turner to the Big Valley Home she and Andrew Serrano formerly had shared to pick up some of her belongings.

Turner has remained hospitalized since the shooting, and has successfully undergone surgery to remove the bullet, according to the “Pray for Willy Turner” Facebook page set up by his family https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pray-for-Willy-Turner/274420952585517?ref=ts.

The Lake County District Attorney's Office has charged Andrew Serrano with attempted murder, mayhem, assault with a firearm, spousal abuse, making terrorist threats, false imprisonment and a number of special allegations for use of a firearm.

Although Serrano was expected to enter a plea in the case on Monday, attorney Mitchell Hauptman – who made a special appearance on Serrano's behalf on Sept. 13 – asked for additional time in order to determine whether or not he would represent Serrano in this case, according to Deputy District Attorney Alan Upton.

Serrano is due to return to court on Monday, Oct. 3, Upton said.

At the request of the Lake County Sheriff's Office, the Lake County Superior Court enhanced Serrano's bail to $1 million last week. Upton said Serrano's bail remains at that amount.
