Eastlake Grange hosts Sheriff Mack Sept. 26

CLEARLAKE OAKS, Calif. – “Making Change: Where Knowledge Is Power” will host retired sheriff of Graham County, Ariz., Richard Ivan Mack, on Monday, Sept. 26.

The talk will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Eastlake Grange, 12982 E. Hwy. 20, Clearlake Oaks.

Mack hit the spotlight in 1994, when he filed a lawsuit that was eventually heard by the United States Supreme Court.

Mack v. United States, (later changed to Printz v. United States,) challenged the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act on the grounds that it is unconstitutional for the United States Congress to enact laws that compel state and local law enforcement to execute said laws.

Mack’s views of the limitation of the Congress to pass laws that dictate to local law enforcement were upheld by the Supreme Court.

Since winning the lawsuit, Mack has traveled to many states giving speeches regarding the responsibility of local law enforcement to protect their constituents from abuse to their civil rights.

Mack is well known for his stance on constitutional issues relating to gun control and has written several books.

Making Change has invited Mack to give voice to his views on the sheriff’s responsibility and authority to uphold the United States Constitution and to protect their constituents from abuse by the federal government. His book, “The County Sheriff: America’s Last Hope,” is about this very idea.

A pledge for a donation of $10 is requested.
