Clearlake City Council to hold public hearing on new solid waste ordinance

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clearlake City Council will host a public discussion on a new solid waste ordinance and consider the appointment of a council member to a regional committee when it meets this week.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in the council chambers at Clearlake City Hall, 14050 Olympic Drive.

Documents for the meeting can be found below or at Lake County News' Scribd account, www.scribd.com/LakeCoNews.

The council approved a new franchise agreement with Clearlake Waste Solutions at its Aug. 11 meeting.

Interim City Administrator Bob Galusha's report to the council explains that the new agreement required the modification of the city municipal code relating to solid waste collection.

The proposed ordinance's findings state that the changes to the city code are to make it consistent with the new agreement, and reflect “best practices regarding the collection and disposal of solid waste.”

If accepted, the ordinance will be retroactive to Sept. 1.

Also on the agenda, the council will consider appointing a city official to the League of California Cities' Redwood Empire Division Legislative Committee.

The staff report from City Clerk Melissa Swanson suggests that a council member be appointed.
