Lease of city property on Clearlake City Council's Oct. 27 agenda

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clearlake City Council on Thursday will discuss leasing a city-owned property to a local nonprofit.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, in the council chambers at Clearlake City Hall, 14050 Olympic Drive. TV8 will broadcast the meeting live.

In April the council gave staff direction to develop a request for proposals to rent the city-owned property at 4700 Golf Ave., formerly the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce office.

The chamber moved out because of the building's condition, and the plan is to offer low annual rent in exchange for having the tenant fix the building.

Although no request for proposals ultimately was prepared, staff is bringing forward a request from North Coast Opportunities, which wants to use the building for services including a food pantry, food roundtable, volunteer network and other assistance for low-income families, according to a report from City Clerk Melissa Swanson.

The proposed lease would be for five years at $1 a year in exchange for upkeep and maintaining the building, Swanson reported. The city would need to approve the building's upgrades, with North Coast Opportunities acquiring the proper permits.

The council also will consider a cost allocation plan, transfer of the Austin Resort storage lease, contracts for sales tax audits and state-mandated cost claims, and will discuss appointing one of its members to the League of California Cities Redwood Empire Division Legislative Committee, a discussion held over from the Oct. 13 meeting due to not having a full council.

Also on Thursday, the council will present a proclamation declaring Oct. 22-30 as Red Ribbon Week.
