Vandals hit Lakeport school, causing expensive damage

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Lakeport’s recent troubles with graffiti and vandalism continued to escalate this week, with expensive damage done at a local school over the weekend.

Sgt. Dale Stoebe said Terrace Middle School was one of the latest sites to sustain damage.

“There were six windows that were shot out sometime over the weekend, up to and including Monday night,” he said.

There were no witnesses to the incident, with the school’s janitor reporting the damaged windows, said Stoebe.

Stoebe said police aren’t sure if a BB gun or pellet gun was used. “The projectiles weren’t found.”

The cost to replace the six windows is estimated at $1,100, Stoebe said.

Nearby Lakeport Elementary School was tagged with graffiti over the weekend as well, he said.

Local school complexes have been regular targets for vandalism and graffiti, but Stoebe said the Lakeport schools hadn’t been affected for some time.

Since late last month, the city has seen numerous taggings of buildings around the downtown area, as Lake County News has reported. Police said this week they’re continuing to follow up on leads in an effort to make arrests in those cases.

Lakeport Police Chief Brad Rasmussen reported the latest vandalisms to the Lakeport City Council at its Tuesday night meeting.

In addition to the school, Library Park – which has been hit previously in recent weeks – also was once again tagged, Rasmussen said.

Anyone with information about any of the vandalisms is asked to call the Lakeport Police Department at 707-263-5491. If a vandalism is witnessed in progress, call 911.
