CLEARLAKE, Calif. – A Lower Lake man who refused to stop for an officer led police on a 12-mile high speed vehicle pursuit Saturday evening.
Logan Stuart Gavazza, 43, was arrested after the chase, according to acting Sgt. Dominic Ramirez.
Ramirez said that shortly after 5:30 p.m. Saturday Officer Alan Collier observed a black 2009 Ford Mustang traveling at a high rate of speed on 40th Avenue.
“As he attempted to catch up to the vehicle and conduct a traffic stop the vehicle fled,” Ramirez explained.
Gavazza allegedly had thrown a bag containing methamphetamine from the vehicle during the pursuit, Ramirez said.
Collier and three other Clearlake Police officers chased Gavazza for approximately 12.3 miles on city streets, out onto Highway 53 and to Highway 20, and then onto Sulphur Bank Road in Clearlake Oaks, where Ramirez said the pursuit ended.
Lake County Sheriff's deputies had been requested to assist when the chase moved into the county jurisdiction, but Ramirez said the pursuit ended before deputies could reach the area.
Collier arrested Gavazza just after 6:30 p.m., according to Gavazza’s booking sheet.
Gavazza was arrested on numerous charges including felony possession of a controlled substance, transporting a controlled substance and evading a peace officer with disregard for public safety, and misdemeanor counts of destroying or concealing evidence, driving while on a license revoked for driving under the influence, obstructing or resisting a peace officer, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to jail records.
His bail was set at $35,000, and he is set to appear in Lake County Superior Court on Tuesday, Jan. 10, jail records indicated.
