CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Reports of an off-road motorcycle on city streets led to two arrests on Tuesday and the recovery of a stolen motorcycle.

Arrested were 35-year-old Eric Jeffrey Klein and Rafael Garcia, 36, according to Sgt. Rodd Joseph of the Clearlake Police Department.

On Tuesday at about 8:45 a.m., the Clearlake Police Department began receiving several calls from several witnesses regarding a person riding an off-road motorcycle in the area of Oak and 31st avenues, Joseph said.

He said officers were not available to immediately respond to the call as officers were working on a priority call for service.

After completing the priority call, two officers arrived in the area of 31st and Oak avenues. Joseph said the officers contacted a witness and identified a home in the 15600 block of 31st Avenue where the motorcycle was last seen.

At the residence officers contacted Klein, who Joseph said is a well-known parolee from Clearlake.

When Klein learned that officers were going to conduct a parole search of the home, he told officers that he had been riding the off road motorcycle which was now parked in the garage, Joseph reported.

Officers examined the 2004 Honda off road motorcycle and discovered it was a reported stolen motorcycle. Joseph said the motorcycle had been reported stolen in November 2011 out of the Blue Lakes area of Lake County to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers then conducted a parole search of the home where several other subjects were located, Joseph said.

Garcia, a parolee out of the Los Angeles area and formerly of Clearlake, was found hiding in a closet in Klein’s home, according to Joseph.

Joseph said Garcia is well known to Clearlake Police Department. Garcia had a parole warrant for his arrest and was arrested without incident.

During a subsequent parole search of the residence, suspected methamphetamine totaling over a gram and drug paraphernalia were located, Joseph reported. A search of a vehicle on the property yielded over 2 pounds of processed marijuana.

Klein was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, Joseph said.

Klein and Garcia were both booked into the Lake County Jail. Jail records showed that Klein’s bail was set at $15,000, with Garcia on a no-bail hold. Both remained in custody on Wednesday.

The stolen motorcycle was returned to the legal owner, Joseph said.

The Clearlake Police Department reminds residents it is illegal to drive or ride off highway vehicles on any city street, whether paved or not.

The police department also thanked those callers who reported this activity which led to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle, the recovery of dangerous drugs and the apprehension of two parolees.
