Clearlake City Council to discuss redevelopment at Thursday meeting

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Redevelopment and next steps to take in the wake of a California Supreme Court last month that upheld the end of redevelopment agencies will be topics of discussion at this week’s Clearlake City Council meeting.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, in the council chambers at Clearlake City Hall, 14050 Olympic Drive. TV8 will broadcast the meeting live.

The council will consider a report from City Attorney Malathy Subramanian on the advantages and disadvantages of becoming a successor agency to the Clearlake Redevelopment Agency, which will involve overseeing the agency’s phase out.

Interim City Administrator Joan Phillipe will take to the council a discussion on the acceptance of properties offered to the city, and a brief on Golden State Water Co.’s rate increase as well as its recent settlement with the California Public Utilities Commission.

The commission fined the company $1 million and ordered it to refund $9.5 million to customers around the state, including its 2,200 Clearlake customers, as Lake County News has reported.

The council will discuss mayoral appointments, and schedule a closed session at 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, to conduct performance evaluations of Phillipe and interim Police Chief Craig Clausen, and plan for a workshop at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, to discuss goals and objectives.

In other business, Four Corners True Value Hardware will receive a certificate of appreciation for the Christmas Light Parade on Dec. 3.
