Sheriff’s substation, midyear budget reviews up for supervisors’ consideration

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Board of Supervisors this week will hold a public hearing on the proposed purchase of a new sheriff’s substation and receive a staff presentation on the county’s midyear budget review.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, in the board chambers at the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes St., Lakeport. TV8 will broadcast the meeting live.

At 9:15 a.m., the board will hold a public hearing on the proposed purchase of a property at 21277 Calistoga St. in Middletown, where Sheriff Frank Rivero wants to locate a new department substation.

Last October the board approved purchasing the property, which is located across the street from the new Middletown Town Square Park, as well as the new library and senior center that is under construction.

The property last sold for $355,000 in 2005, but has since gone through a foreclosure. With declining property values, the county has negotiated the property price down to $205,000, below the $247,000 the property was valued at by an independent appraiser, according to a report from County Administrative Officer Kelly Cox.

At 9:45 a.m., the board will hold a nuisance abatement hearing on H2C collective, a medical marijuana dispensary located at 21136 Highway 29 in Middletown run by Daniel Chadwick.

Late last year the board ordered all dispensaries closed after it rescinded a medical marijuana dispensaries ordinance in the face of a referendum, as Lake County News has reported.

In other board business for Tuesday, the supervisors will receive from Cox and his administrative staff a presentation on the midyear budget review, and will consider a proposed resolution amending the fiscal year 2011-12 adopted budget and the position allocation for selected budget units. The item is untimed.

In another untimed item, the board will consider requests from Kelseyville High School and Upper Lake High School to hold their proms at the Lucerne Hotel.
