Police investigate Wednesday night vehicle fires, fire set at residence

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Two vehicles and a residence that appeared to have been intentionally set on fire on Wednesday night are being investigated by police and fire officials.

Police said the two vehicles were located in the 3600 block of Madrone Street in Clearlake.

Lake County Fire personnel were dispatched to the area shortly before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, where they found the two vehicles ablaze, according to radio reports.

Fire Chief Willie Sapeta told Lake County News on Thursday that the fires were quickly extinguished.

“There was little to no damage done,” he said.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday Clearlake Police officers were dispatched to the area of the fires to assist Lake County Fire, according to Sgt. Martin Snyder of the Clearlake Police Department.

Snyder said officers arrived on scene and were briefed by fire personnel regarding an arson to two parked vehicles and one residence.

From the investigation it appears an unknown suspect or suspects placed cloth material in the fueling nozzles of two parked vehicles, according to Snyder.

He said cloth material also was placed into two separate window frames of a residence and lit on fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene and extinguished the residential fire with handheld fire extinguishers, said Snyder.

He said police have minimal suspect information regarding the incident.

Sapeta said Capt. Brice Trask of Lake County Fire is conducting the fire investigation.
