Sabatier: Running for Clearlake City Council

brunosabatier

My name is Bruno Sabatier and I am running for Clearlake City Council.

I am a proud father of two young children and a loving husband. I am a graduate of Yuba Community College District in Clearlake where I acquired my AA degree. I am a political science major of UC Davis. I am also a founder and lead coordinator of an organization called Power to the Youth. I believe in healthy communities and healthy communities start with providing for our youth.

When I am elected as a city council member in November, I will act today to ensure the future is bright for all who reside within the city of Clearlake. By helping our youth succeed in their future we will also create a better future for our community.

In 2010, while attending Yuba Community College District’s (YCCD) Clear Lake Campus, I was elected President of the Clear Lake Associated Students (CLAS).

During my time as CLAS president, my group and I set a new standard of what is to be expected from future CLAS administrations. Upon my graduation from YCCD, I was the Gold Medal recipient for my achievements at the college as well as my participation in the community.

When elected as a city council member, I will work hard to ensure that our city council group will also set a new standard by which future city councils are expected to attain.

My participation in the community started from a vision of what I felt the community needed. With the help of many volunteers, we were able to put together the first Power to the Youth event.

The main idea behind the event was to empower our youth with self-confidence and the knowledge of where to find community support to help them succeed.

The community’s feedback was positive and many wanted to see more basketball, one of a variety of activities in Power to the Youth. The community spoke and I listened.

This year, Power to the Youth not only had its second annual event, but we also began offering a free Open Door Basketball program. The basketball program offers an opportunity for our youth to play organized games in a safe environment on Saturday nights. Open Door Basketball’s success is based on the program meeting the requests of the community.

As a council member, I will listen to the public’s requests and work with the community to meet its needs.

In addition to creating youth activities and events, I’ve helped create a new show on PEG TV8 called “Making Change: Where Knowledge is Power.” In this show, I interview people across the county that help bring positive change to our community.

I am currently working with PEG TV8 to create a Lake County live news coverage show. The youth will play an integral part in creating and participating in the live news coverage.

I am also working to recruit members of the youth community to help build the City of Clearlake’s Web site. These programs will benefit the community and the youth, and have a positive effect on employment opportunities.

I have recently attended leadership training programs, offered by Sen. Richard Polenko. I have been trained as a representative that fulfills the needs of the community. Because of this training, I’ve been a guest on KPFZ’s Herb Gura show, “I’m not a lawyer, but I play one on the radio,” to speak of the new paradigms of politics where the people regain power over their government and their government gives power to the people. I will not only meet the needs of this community, but together we can exceed them and make this community thrive.

Once elected as a city council member, I will serve you the people. I have posted a survey ( www.surveymonkey.com/s/27R78FX ) that will inform me about what issues or concerns the public has about the community. Please take the time to fill out the survey to provide me with more community feedback.

Based on the current survey results, some of the pressing issues in our community are roads, jobs, crime and improvements to Lakeshore Drive.

As a city council member, these concerns will help me prioritize the needs of our community. I am creative in finding solutions to problems we may have long thought impossible to solve. I work hard in order to ensure success with every goal that is set.

As a city council member, I will represent all of the residents of Clearlake, ensuring that our plan for the city benefits everyone.
