LAKEPORT, Calif. – Lake County Farm Bureau will host a confined space awareness training on Tuesday, Aug. 28.
The training will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Farm Bureau office, 65 Soda Bay Road in Lakeport.
One of the requirements from Cal/OSHA is to have employee and supervisor training on safe work procedures, hazard controls and emergency action programs and this training addresses these and other confined space issues.
According to Cal/OSHA, a confined space is defined as a space large enough and configured such that an employee can enter the space and perform work, has limited opening for entry and exit, and is not designed for continuous employee occupancy.
These spaces have the potential for a hazardous atmosphere, including the lack of or too much oxygen, and/or the presence of toxic or explosive vapors.
These spaces may also have physical safety hazards that can cause employees to be trapped, crushed or buried.
Confined spaces can be deadly and since these spaces may be encountered in virtually any industry, recognizing the potential hazards is the first step in preventing fatalities and injuries.
This training, conducted by On Site Safety Services Inc., will cover identifying hazards, hazard assessment, written programs, lockout-tagout, entry control, personal protective equipment and employee duties.
Space is limited and registration must be received by Friday, Aug. 24. Cost for the training is as follows:
- Lake County Farm Bureau President’s Club members – $20;
- Farm Bureau members – $30;
- Non-Farm Bureau members – $40.
