KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Kelseyville Pear Festival marks its 20th year on Saturday, Sept. 29.
The festival always begins with a hometown parade right down Main Street starting at 9:30 a.m.
Parade organizers highlight this year’s Grand Marshals Judy Card, John Puccetti and Eric Schofield.
The Pear Prince and Princess essay contest winners join in the parade and are recognized for outstanding writing effort as well as awarded a $100.00 Savings Bond each. It is sponsored by WestAmerica Bank.
Want to join in the magic of a small town? Enter the parade using a creative use of pear-related themes. A grand prize is awarded.
Social or business organizations as well as youth groups are encouraged to get together and have some fun marching. Other entries might want to wash and buff up your antique cars, shine your tractors or bicycles, fill your wagons with children, curry the horses or possibly decorate a float.
Sign up for the parade and spend the rest of the day with your family enjoying everything the festival offers. Try out the free quilt show, a wide variety of food booths with treats for all tastes, a fine arts exhibit, and crafts and vendors that specialize in all things pear.
This year the festival introduces the Hangout Theatre. It is designed for kids ages 10 to 15 to meet up with friends and enjoy entertainment that includes musicians, jugglers, dancers and comedians Tyler Vanderwall and friends.
Four other stages feature performances by popular local musicians and a theatrical presentation performed by the Lake County Theatre Co.
The antique tractor and farm equipment display returns to Main Street and the Pear Pavilion. The pavilion is filled with historical displays, agricultural memorabilia, and docents from the recently opened Ely Stage Stop and Country Museum.
Everyone looks forward to the pear tastings, pies and even more live music. There is something for everyone.
