LAKEPORT – The Lakeport City Council will consider a cost of living rate adjustment for the city's franchise trash hauler at its meeting this week.

The council will meet beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St.

City Manager Jerry Gillham will take to the council a proposal to give Lakeport Disposal a 2.5 percent cost of living adjustment for its services.

Lakeport Disposal is the city's franchise hauler for trash, recyclables and green waste under its universal – or mandatory – trash collection, which went into effect in January 2004.

At its Dec. 18 meeting, council members raised concerns about some points of the franchise agreement that Lakeport Disposal reportedly is not meeting, but members did not disclose which issues they referred to during that discussion. However, it was agreed at the time that the council should go forward with an increase for the company to help it meet its expenses.

In other business on the fairly short Tuesday agenda, the council will consider adopting a 2007-09 business plan for the city.

Community Development Director will take to the council Ordinance No. 871 for its second reading. The ordinance, which passed its first reading before the council at its Dec. 4 meeting, rezones a building at 601 N. Forbes St. owned by Fred Blower, changing it from high density residential to professional office zoning.

Another ordinance up for its second reading is Ordinance No. 869, which amends the Lakeport Zoning Ordinance to amend provisions relating to the placement and construction of metal and fabric-covered carports within the city's residential zoning districts.

The council also will appoint four members to the city's Parks and Recreation Commission.
