The meeting starts at 6 p.m.
The skate park was closed late last fall due to unsafe conditions. It's currently in the process of being resurfaced to allow skateboarders and BMX riders to get back to the business of some serious shredding.
But, first, the council wants to discuss putting in place rules meant to keep riders safe and the city free from liability.
Those new rules will be up for consideration Thursday, along with reallocating funding from a California Department of Parks and Recreation grant and authorization to apply for a grant from the Tony Hawk Foundation, which makes grants to support building skate parks in low-income areas.
The council also will consider naming the park in memory of a well-loved local skateboarder.
If the council consents, the park could bear the name of Andy Johnson, who – at the too-young age of 18 – died in an April 2006 car crash near Eureka along with three others.
Young people who have spoken to the council about the park in recent meetings named Johnson as an inspiration and a mentor in their skating pursuits.
In other business Thursday, the council will consider establishing a program to finance city street improvements through assessment districts. The method of funding has been promoted by City Administrator Dale Neiman at previous meetings as an effective way of getting streets paved. It requires residents to opt into paying for improvements on their streets.
Other topics on the agenda include a public hearing on amending the 2007-08 budget; consideration of a policy for installing curbs, gutters and sidewalks; a public hearing on amending the city Redevelopment Agency's five-year implementation plan; and a public hearing on amending the city's sign regulations.
Clearlake City Hall is located at 14050 Olympic Drive.
