LAKEPORT, Calif. – Kenny Neal, Louisiana Music Hall of Fame blues guitarist, entertainer and songwriter, will perform with his band at the Soper-Reese Community Theatre in Lakeport starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 5.

This will be the first co-production between the theater and the Blue Wing Restaurant in Upper Lake, well known for its promotion of quality live music in Lake County.

“I’ve known about the famous Neal blues family from Louisiana for a long time and was blown away last year when I saw Kenny at a show at Yoshi’s in San Francisco,” said Blue Wing owner Bernie Butcher. “I asked him up for our Labor Day Blues Extravaganza and he absolutely tore the place apart. The man knows the blues and enthralls an audience with his personality. Those who couldn’t make it Labor Day really shouldn’t miss this performance.”

“This is a wonderful opportunity to work with the people at the Tallman Hotel and Blue Wing to bring world-class musicians to the theater,” said Soper-Reese Executive Director Mike Adams. “If this evening goes well, we should see many more opportunities for this type of collaboration.”

Kenny Neal is one of the most vibrant personalities on the blues scene today. He was imbued with Louisiana style blues at an early age, learning from and playing with his legendary father Raful Neal.

Inducted last year into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, Kenny Neal is a great entertainer and songwriter as well as a master of the blues guitar and harmonica.

Signing with Alligator Records in 1988, Neal began releasing a series of consistently lauded albums featuring his laid-back, Baton Rouge blues, with a modern spin on the Louisiana sound he grew up with.

In 2005, a life-threatening health problem forced Neal to completely stop performing and recording for a few years.

Then, within an 11-month span during this recovery period, Neal lost his dad, sister, and brother. In the best blues tradition, he took the tragedies, adversity and heartbreak of those years and turned them into great songs and performances.

Writing, playing, and singing with a renewed sense of purpose and energy, he used this time to craft an inspired collection of songs that make up “Let Life Flow,” released in 2008, and “Hooked on Your Love” two years later. Both met with immediate critical success.

Admission to the April 5 show is just $15 and tickets may be purchased at the Soper-Reese Box Office, on the Soper-Reese Web site at www.soperreesetheatre.com , or by calling the Tallman Hotel at 707-275-2244, Extension 0.

Loge and table seating is on a general admission basis and doors for the 7 p.m. show will open at 6 p.m.
