MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – Sunday's scorching temperatures caused several visitors to a local swimming hole to require assistance getting home.
Early Sunday afternoon, officials responded to Yankee Valley Road on the report of three juveniles and an adult who had gone swimming on Putah Creek needing help due to the heat, according to Cal Fire Battalion Chief Mike Wink.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office was first on scene, locating the swimmers and then asking for South Lake County Fire and Cal Fire to respond in case the four needed medical assistance, said Wink.
Wink said a Cal Fire helicopter landed, gathered up the group and transported them to a fire ambulance where they were medically evaluated.
All of them were OK outside of a touch of heat exhaustion, Wink said.
Despite the hot conditions, Wink said there has not been a spike in heat-related calls, with people remaining inside out of the heat for the most part.
The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for Lake County that will remain in effect through Wednesday due to the dangerous heat conditions.
Forecasters said daytime highs could range between 108 and 117 degrees.
Area residents are urged to reschedule strenuous physical activity to morning or evening hours, drink plenty of water, be mindful of children and the elderly – who are especially susceptible to heat-related illnesses – and keep livestock and pets supplied with plenty of water and places to escape the heat.
