CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clearlake Police Department called for the assistance of the sheriff's SWAT team on Saturday in taking a felony assault suspect into custody.
Jake Andrew Petker, 49, was arrested about three and a half hours after he initially refused to come out of his residence at Lakeland Mobile Home Park, located at 5575 Old Highway 53, according to Sgt. Tim Hobbs.
At noon police were dispatched to the trailer for a report of a disturbance involving a weapon, with one person injured, Hobbs said.
When the officers arrived they found that Petker had allegedly threatened to kill and had battered his roommate, 50-year-old Donna Maves, Hobbs said.
Hobbs said Maves sustained a considerable laceration to her hand and was transported to St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake for treatment.
Officers attempted to contact Petker but he refused to come out of the residence. Hobbs said officers were told that Petker had eight firearms in different location throughout the residence that were loaded and ready for use.
Due to the severity of the crime and the information that Petker had the firearms in different locations, Hobbs said police requested the Lake County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team.
While waiting for the SWAT team to arrive, Clearlake Police officers evacuated the area around the residence and attempted to get Petker to come out of the residence using a public address speaker, Hobbs said.
Medical personnel from the Lake County Fire Protection District responded to the scene to stage in the event they were needed, according to Hobbs.
At approximately 2:55 p.m., the SWAT team arrived at the location. Hobbs said that Petker voluntarily came out of the residence at 3:36 p.m. after speaking with a Lake County Sheriff’s Office negotiator.
Clearlake Police officers then arrested Petker for criminal threats, battery with serious bodily injury and resisting arrest, Hobbs said.
Petker was later booked into the Lake County Jail, where bail was set at $15,000, according to jail records. He remained in custody on Sunday morning.
The Clearlake Police Department thanked the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Lake County Fire Protection District for their assistance in the situation.
