Pear Orchard Systems Field Meeting set for Oct. 22

HOPLAND, Calif. – University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) and the California Pear Advisory Board invite growers and others involved in the northern California pear industry to attend the Pear Orchard Systems Field Meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at Shadowbrook Farms, 13850 Old River Road, Hopland.

Attendees will be introduced to a new high density planting of Bartlett pears on three rootstocks trained to four different systems and three spacings.

Participants will include Rachel Elkins, UCCE Pomology advisor for Lake, Mendocino, Sutter and Yuba counties; Bruce Lampinen and Ted DeJong, Department of Plant Sciences, UC Davis; Todd Einhorn, Oregon State University Mid-Columbia Agricultural Research and Extension Center, Hood River; and Stefano Musacchi, Washington State University Tree Fruit Research and Extension Center, Wenatchee.

A new planting of the latest USDA pear cultivar selections also will be introduced.
