Embezzlement case to return to court in April

CLEARLAKE OAKS – A woman accused of embezzling from her employer will return to court next month.

Michelle Lynn Davis, 23, is scheduled to be in court on April 11, at which time her preliminary hearing date may be set, according to Chief Deputy District Attorney Richard Hinchcliff.

Davis was arrested Jan. 2 on a felony embezzlement charge, as Lake County News has reported.

She reportedly worked for five years for the vineyard management company Shannon Ranches, based in Clearlake Oaks.

Hinchcliff said Davis was in court Friday, at which time her defense attorney, Kristine Burk of Sebastopol, was provided with discovery and reports in the case.

A call to Burk's office for comment was not returned.

In addition to the embezzlement charge, Davis is facing a special allegation because the amount taken was allegedly more than $150,000, Hinchcliff said.

The precise amount that Davis is alleged to have taken isn't being released at this point, said Hinchcliff.

Davis remains free on her own recognizance, Hinchcliff said.
