Council looks at medical marijuana dispensaries, tree protection and skate park rules

CLEARLAKE A moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries, a new tree protection ordinance and skate park rule enforcement are on the agenda for the Clearlake City Council's Thursday meeting.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at Clearlake City Hall, 14050 Olympic Drive. A closed session to discuss anticipated litigation will take place at 5:15 p.m.

In what may be the agenda's most controversial item, the council will consider a moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries.

Last April, the council approved a yearlong extension to a temporary moratorium on medical marijuana within the city limits.

That ordinance didn't impact medical marijuana dispensaries already in operation, such as D&M Compassion Center, although the council could change its mind going forward with this new discussion.

In other business, last month, the Clearlake Planning Commission adopted a new ordinance to protect native and heritage trees. That ordinance will go to the council, which will consider a final adoption on Thursday night.

The council also plans to discuss optional enforcement procedures the city's skate park, which has its grand opening this Saturday. Council members at the last meeting voice frustration over the lack of cooperation with rules including wearing safety equipment shown by the teens and children using the newly renovated park.

Other items on the agenda include:

– Consideration of amendments to both the city and redevelopment budgets.

– A presentation by Melissa Fulton on Mt. Konocti Facilitation.

– Presentation by Lori Peters of the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce and the Lake County Community Co-op.

– An ordinance establishing regulations for special events.

– Consideration of a purchase order for three new police patrol vehicles.

– Consideration of adopting a policy to establish a procedure for providing comments and suggestions on development projects.

–Workman's Compensation for Volunteers Policy.
