LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Police Department on Sunday arrested a woman on charges including attempted homicide and assault with a deadly weapon after she intentionally caused a traffic collision that injured two people, one of them seriously.
Dana Marie Lindsey, 37, of Lakeport was arrested for attempted homicide, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading a peace officer, felony driving under the influence causing great bodily injury and misdemeanor drunk driving, according to Sgt. Mike Sobieraj.
At 7:20 a.m. Sunday Lake County Central Dispatch received an emergency call from the California Highway Patrol Communications Center in Ukiah reporting that they received a call from a Lakeport man who stated that his wife told him she was going to kill herself by running her car into another vehicle, according to Sobieraj's report.
The woman – identified as Lindsey – was reported to be driving a 1997 gold Volkswagen convertible in the area of Lakeport Boulevard and Highway 29. Sobieraj said Lakeport Police Department, CHP and Lake County Sheriff's Office Units responded to the scene.
Sobieraj said officer subsequently received information that Lindsey's husband had been hanging onto the vehicle and fell or jumped off.
Responding units attempted to stop Lindsey as she traveled southbound on Highway 29 from Lakeport Boulevard but she evaded them. Sobieraj said she made two attempts to drive her vehicle into another vehicle traveling northbound, but they were able to avoid a collision.
Lindsey continued to travel southbound and intentionally hit a 2009 Toyota Corolla just south of the intersection of Highways 29 and 175 Hopland, Sobieraj said.
He said a 24-year-old male passenger in the Corolla was seriously injured and transported via ambulance to Sutter Lakeside Hospital. The man was expected to be transferred to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
The Corolla's 28-year-old female driver suffered minor injuries and later was transported by private party to Sutter Lakeside where she was treated and released, Sobieraj said.
Lindsey – who officers believed to be under the influence of methamphetamine and MDMA, the latter more commonly known as ecstasy – suffered minor injuries and also was transported by ambulance to Sutter Lakeside Hospital where she was treated and released at approximately 4 p.m. Sunday, according to Sobieraj.
Sobieraj said Lakeport Police officers responded to the hospital when Lindsey was released, arrested her and transported her to the Lake County Correctional Facility where she was booked and is being held on $1 million bail.
The CHP is working with the Lakeport Police Department on this investigation, which Sobieraj said is ongoing.
Lindsey's vehicle was seized as evidence and is being held pending further processing, Sobieraj said.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the Lakeport Police Department wants to speak to anyone who was a witness to any part of this incident or who had to take action to avoid a crash with Lindsey.
