LAKEPORT, Calif. – This week the Lakeport City Council will consider moving forward with a solar project and discuss a proposal to host a Shakespearean production in Library Park this summer.
The council will meet beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, in the council chambers at Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St.
During presentations, the council will get the Lake County Economic Profile Report by Jim Cassio of the Napa-Lake Workforce Investment Board and Brian Marland of the Sonoma Economic Development Board, and the Government Finance Officers Association’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award will be presented to the City Lakeport Finance Department.
Finance Director Dan Buffalo will take to the council an update on a proposal for a solar project and a discussion of financing options developed by city staff.
Buffalo's report said the total project cost is estimated to be between approximately $2.4 million and $2.9 million and will remove most of the city’s electrical needs for Pacific Gas and Electric. The term of financing options explored was for 15 years with a useful facility life of 25 years.
Staff is seeking direction from the council to negotiate terms with the most suitable financier, according to Buffalo's report.
In other news, City Manager Margaret Silveira will take to the council a request to conditionally approve an event application for the Northern California Shakespeare Festival to take place in Library Park on July 30 and 31.
Silveira's report said the Mendocino College Theatre Department, in conjunction with the Lake County Theatre Co., is proposing to inaugurate the Northern California Shakespeare Festival by presenting “Shakespeare at the Lake.”
Silveira said the production will include reserved seating for sponsors, and food and beverages will be sold as a fundraiser for student scholarships.
“Since this production is in the planning stages, staff is recommending approval for the event with sponsorship from the City, conditional on working with staff for final approval. Permission for alcohol sales will also be necessary as part of the food and beverage sales to be provided by the Lake County Friends of Mendocino College,” Silveira wrote in her report.
In other news, the council is expected to adopt several proposed resolutions: the first, to reaffirm the necessity of AB 1600 development impact fees; the second, to establish regular meeting dates of the Municipal Financing Agency of Lakeport; and the third, authorizing the city manager to submit payment requests related to the administration of the beverage container recycling payment program.
On the meeting's consent agenda – items considered noncontroversial and usually accepted as a slate on one vote – are ordinances; minutes of the special council meeting on Feb. 26 and the regular meeting on March 1; the warrant register of March 4; and a resolution providing ranges of pay for seasonal Westshore Pool classifications.
