CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The field of candidates for the Clearlake City Council took part in a special forum held Monday evening.
Lake County News hosted the hour-and-a-half-long forum at Clearlake City Hall.
The video of the event is featured above. Due to technical issues early in the program, the candidates' initial introductions are not included.
The candidates featured included, from left to right on the dais, Nick Bennett, Phil Harris, Joey Luiz, Joyce Overton and Bill Shields. Jeremy Mayfield did not appear for the event.
Bennett, a retired police sergeant, and Overton, the executive director of the Highlands Senior Center, are incumbents. During the forum the candidates discussed their priorities and key issues including business development and how to approach road repairs, the Measure V road tax on the November ballot, the potential for statewide marijuana legalization this fall, the development of the city's airport property, weed abatement on vacant lots and attracting tourism to the city, among other topics.
The candidates also will appear at a forum from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Woodland Community College's campus in Clearlake.
