CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clearlake Police Department has issued a road closure due to the rain and flooding and reported on a separate sewage leak in another part of the city, and the mayor is asking for residents to use particular caution as the storms continue.
The police department urged community members to avoid the area of Old Highway 53 at J&L Market due to heavy flooding across the roadway.
Police said there are barricade warnings in place, and drivers are asked to use alternative routes.
The agency also told residents to avoid contact with water near the 6800 block of Meadowbrook due to a sewage leak.
Lake County Special Districts was on scene at around 1:30 p.m. and working on the issue, police said.
Police said people should assume water in the area is contaminated. Anyone or anything that comes in contact with the water should be cleaned thoroughly and immediately.
Separately, Mayor Russ Perdock told Lake County News that Clearlake Public Works staff and first responders are out helping as needed and directed in response to the storm and flooding.
“I would simply ask that our residents, neighbors and guests would only go out if absolutely necessary. If an emergency exists and they must drive, please travel slowly and safely,” Perdock said.
He added, “Please be patient and safe until the storm subsides.”
