LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Board of Supervisors this week will consider giving staff direction on county-owned properties that could be used for a new courthouse and also will discuss modifying an urgency ordinance passed in January temporarily reducing boat speed on Clear Lake because of high water conditions.
The board will meet beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, in the board chambers on the first floor of the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes St., Lakeport.
The meeting can be watched live on Channel 8 and online at http://www.co.lake.ca.us/Government/Boards/Board_of_Supervisors/calendar.htm . Accompanying board documents, the agenda and archived board meeting videos also are available at that link.
In an untimed item, County Administrative Officer Carol Huchingson will ask for the board to consider giving staff direction regarding the new county courthouse construction project.
The project – which has been planned for a location next to Vista Point off of Lakeport Boulevard – has been ongoing for several years. Last year, the state ordered reconsideration of the project, saying it needed to cut the project's budget further.
Huchingson said the state Administrative Office of the Courts contacted her office some months ago to discuss other possible locations for the project and, specifically, to ask about three county-owned sites: a property in Clearlake near the existing courthouse; a north Lakeport property adjacent to the Hill Road jail; and a Lakeport property on Bevins Court adjacent to the Health Services Department. The two latter sites are available.
She said the state court staff is finalizing recommendations based on consideration of the county-owned sites as well as other locations that will be presented at a meeting in San Francisco on March 17.
Huchingson is asking if the board wants her staff to prepare a county position statement to be included in the Administrative Office of the Courts staff report for the March meeting, and if staff also should attend the meeting to speak on behalf of the county's interests.
In another untimed item, the board will consider modifying the Boat Speed Urgency Ordinance passed last month. The ordinance reduced the speed temporarily to 5 miles per hour while the lake is above 7.9 feet Rumsey.
