LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents of lakeshore communities near Lakeport to consider evacuating due to worsening flood conditions.
On Tuesday evening, the agency issued an urgent update for residents of the Big Valley Rancheria, Lands’ End, Corinthian Bay, Soda Bay and other nearby areas.
Lt. Steve Brooks said roadways and residences are inundated due to recent rainfall, and ground saturation.
Citing the lake level – which was at 10.42 feet Rumsey at 5:15 p.m. – Brooks said areas along the lakeshore already have begun to flood.
Brooks said flood waters are expected to rise Tuesday night.
If your home or property is at risk, the sheriff’s office encourages you to take action now.
Secure your belongings – including medications and important papers – and pets and leave early, as your egress routes may be blocked by flood waters, Brooks said.
The American Red Cross has set up an evacuation shelter at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, located at 1111 Park Way in Lakeport.
Pets are welcome at the shelter, which can be reached via telephone at 707-263-6002.
