LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Police Department is alerting local businesses to be aware of counterfeit $100 bills circulating around the city.

A representative of Umpqua Bank reported receiving four counterfeit $100 bills from local businesses at the Lakeport branch within the past few days.

The police department encourages local businesses to become familiar with identifying counterfeit bills.

Details about how to ID such bills can be found at the Secret Service Web site at http://www.secretservice.gov .

At that Web site, choose the “Investigation” tab then select “know your money” for detailed instructions on identifying counterfeit bills.
