CLEARLAKE, Calif. – This week the Clearlake City Council is expected to take formal action to appoint members to a new ad hoc committee to explore solutions to the city’s homeless issues and consider sponsoring a youth public art project.
The council will meet in closed session beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 11, to discuss labor and property negotiations before the public portion of the meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at Clearlake City Hall, 14050 Olympic Drive.
Under council business, there will be discussion on appointing members to an ad hoc committee to discuss the city’s homeless issues.
At the council’s April 27 meeting, Vice Mayor Bruno Sabatier received council consensus in support of discussion the committee’s formation to consider the issues and find possible solutions.

The committee implements actions toward a city objective of reducing vagrancy, the report said.
Another council business item will be the consideration of sponsoring an art mural by the Children’s Museum of Art and Science and the Art House Gallery’s Wildlife of Clearlake Youth Public Art Project. Museum and gallery representatives had first presented the idea to the council at its April 27 meeting.
The council also will consider adjusting the salary of the Public Works superintendent position, with the proposed range to be from $57,360.96 to $69,722.61.
The meeting will include the presentation of several proclamations, including declarations for May as US Military Recognition Month; declaring May 7 to 13 as Public Service Appreciation Week; and May 14 to 20 as Law Enforcement Appreciation Week.
Lake County Youth Services also will present the Youth Center Annual Report.
Staff also has asked the council to postpone hearings on assessments for failure to abate nuisances on two properties – 3925 Eureka Ave. and 3923 Oak Ave. – to May 25.
