CLEARLAKE, Calif. – On Thursday the Clearlake City Council formed a new ad hoc committee that will be dedicated to looking at solutions to the city’s growing issue with homelessness.
Vice Mayor Bruno Sabatier had requested at the council’s April 27 meeting that the council discuss the formation of the committee.
Mayor Russ Perdock said Thursday that the committee will report its recommendations back to the council.
He suggested that Councilwoman Joyce Overton and Sabatier be the two council representatives on the committee, with both agreeing to serve.
City Manager Greg Folsom suggested the council direct the Clearlake Planning Commission to select two of its members to participate.
Perdock agreed. “We could be looking at some planning issues as part of that.”
Sabatier said he also wanted to add at least two at-large public members.
Perdock agreed, saying that would be consistent with other city ad hoc committees. He suggested that each council member come up with one city resident who they would like to have serve on the committee and forward the names to Folsom.
City Attorney Ryan Jones suggested the council make the motion to create the ad hoc committee, appoint two council members and direct the planning commission to appoint two members.
Overton made that motion, which the council approved unanimously.
During his report to the council later in the meeting, Folsom said he and Overton had visited a tiny home development in Marysville similar to one that has been suggested to help the homeless in Lake County.
“It was a very interesting set up there,” Folsom said, noting that he will talk more about it to the newly formed ad hoc committee on homeless issues.
In other business, the council approved allowing for an art mural by the Children’s Museum of Art and Science and the Art House Gallery’s Wildlife of Clearlake Youth Public Art Project on a city property that is yet to be selected.
Also on Thursday, the council received the Youth Center Annual Report from the Lake County Youth Services organization and presented proclamations honoring Public Service Appreciation Week, May 7 to 13, and May 14 to 20 as Law Enforcement Appreciation Week.
At staff’s request, the council postponed to May 25 hearings on assessments for failure to abate nuisances on properties at 3925 Eureka Ave. and 3923 Oak Ave.
The proclamation declaring May as US Military Recognition Month also was postponed as Operation Tango Mike representatives could not attend.
