The new Clearlake Police chief's resume

New Clearlake Police Chief Allan McClain has more than 26 years in law enforcement, according to a City of Clearlake statement. Here's a rundown of his experience.


1983-2007: Worked his way up through the Kings County Sheriff's Office, being promoted from sergeant to assistant chief in 2002. In 2004 he was appointed by the Kings County Board of Supervisors to fill the sheriff's position after three-term Sheriff Ken Marvin retired. McClain lost the November 2006 election, and left the sheriff's department on Jan. 8.


2004-2007: Chairman of the Kings County Narcotics Task Force.


1999-2007: Member of the Tulare/Kings County Police Academy Advisory Board.


1999-2002: Member of the Kings County Ambulance Commission.


Other experience:


– One year with the California State Police and two years with the College of the Sequoias Police Department in Visalia previous to joining the Kings County Sheriff's Office in 1983.


– Instructor at the College of the Sequoias, where he taught at the police academy on subjects including police tactics, ethical dilemmas and legal issues. McClain also taught advanced officer training classes for newly appointed supervisors and community-oriented policing.


Education: Bachelor's degree in management and organizational development from Fresno Pacific University; associate's degree in criminology from the College of the Sequoias.
