Quake hits offshore near North Coast

The quake occurred southwest of Eureka at 5:42 a.m. Tuesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey Web site. Six minutes later, a 2.9 temblor hit in the same area.

The seismic activity didn't appear to cause any other quakes in the immediate area, although a 2.1 quake hit in the area of Shasta Reservoir near Redding at 2:35 p.m.

In Lake County, a small quake, measured at 2.1 magnitude, hit the Anderson Springs area just after 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Anderson Springs and the Geysers have experienced six small quakes since Sunday, including Wednesday's microquake, which was the largest of the week so far.
