String of break-ins occurs along Highway 20

“It looks like we had three commercial burglaries last night along Highway 20,” Lt. Patrick McMahon of the Lake County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) said Friday.

The burglaries occurred at Lakeview Market in Lucerne and the Lucerne Senior Center, said McMahon.

A third business, located in Upper Lake, also was hit, McMahon confirmed.

Lake County Car Audio & Security in Upper Lake reported that the plumbing store located behind it was broken into, but that business could not be reached for more information.

Jim Swatts, president of the senior center board, located a block off the highway, reported that the suspects came through one of the center's emergency doors and pried open the outreach office.

They also attempted to get into the office Swatts shares with center director J.J. Jackson, he reported, but were unsuccessful.

The burglars made off with a computer, two DVD players, various videos and about $150 in cash.

“If I find them I'm going to break both of their legs,” Swatts said.

He added, “We keep fighting to get ahead and they keep fighting to put us down.”

Nearby, at Lakeview Market, store owner Deana Parlet confirmed the business was hit.

“They tried to get into our safe,” Parlet said, and in doing so broke a knife trying to pry it open.

“They didn't get a thing,” shes said.

Parlet said LSCO was at the business Friday morning to investigate and dust for fingerprints.

McMahon said there haven't been any other burglaries around the county that appear related.

Anyone with information on the break-ins is asked to call LCSO's detective division at 262-4200.
