Roads clear for holiday weekend

No adverse conditions or delays are reported on Highway 29 from San Francisco through the northwest part of the state, according to the Caltrans road report. Highway 175 also is clear.

A special weather statement issued Friday by the National Weather Service predicts a wet Christmas weekend in interior Northern California, with a wetter storm expected on Christmas day. Overall, NWS reports the storm is expected to be “relatively mild,” with snow at higher elevations, especially in the Sierra Nevada.

There will be some controlled traffic at various locations along Highway 20, between one and four miles west of the Lake/Colusa county lines, Caltrans reported. The traffic control will be in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through Dec. 31 due to construction. Caltrans says motorists should expect 15-minute delays.

From north central California through the Sierra Nevada, Caltrans reports Highway 20 is free from traffic restrictions.

Caltrans reported its crews and contractors will not perform any activity on state highways that would include lane closures on Monday, Dec. 25, in observance of the Christmas holiday. The agency will, however, respond to emergency situations with traffic control as required.

Through Dec. 28, Caltrans is not planning any major lane closures due to roadwork in Lake County.

California Highway Patrol incident reports for Friday noted several incidents regarding icy roads and weather conditions causing problems for travelers. Deer in the county's roadways also continue to be an issue, with animals being reported hit regularly.
