LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Library invites the public to a free showing of the 1935 movie “The Call of the Wild” on Saturday, Oct. 29.
The showing begins at 2 p.m. at the Soper Reese Theatre, 275 S. Main St. in Lakeport. Refreshments will be served.
The movie is loosely based on Jack London’s book. It stars Clark Gable, Loretta Young and Jack Oakie, and was directed by William Wellman.
This event is free to the public and no library card is needed to attend.
Free copies of the book of “The Call of the Wild” will be handed out at the movie showing. The library has given away hundreds of copies of the book and has reordered the title. Copies are now available at all Lake County Library branches while supplies last.
This event wraps up Lake County’s NEA Big Read month-long series of events related to “The Call of the Wild.”
The library thanks its NEA Big Read participants and partners including the Lake County Office of Education, Literacy Taskforce, Friends of Mendocino College, Friends of Mendocino College Library, Friends of the Lake County Library, Friends of the Middletown Library and Rotary Club of Lakeport.
