LAKEPORT, Calif. – One person died Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash along Highway 29 near Lakeport.
Initial information from the California Highway Patrol and radio reports indicated the crash occurred just after 1 p.m. on Highway 29 at the 11th Street off-ramp.
The initial dispatches stated that two vehicles, a truck and a small white car, had gone down an embankment, with at least one of the vehicles hitting a tree.
Lakeport Fire units responded, with Kelseyville Fire units also asked to respond.
Within minutes of arrival, Lakeport Fire Chief Doug Hutchison confirmed over the radio that there was one fatality and one person with major injuries. The CHP also reported the fatality a short time later.
Traffic control was reported to be in place for a short time while emergency responders worked at the scene.
The CHP said the road had fully reopened shortly after 4:20 p.m.
Additional details were not immediately available from the CHP. A full report on the crash is expected later Tuesday.
