CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Clearlake officials and community members worked side-by-side on Saturday morning to clean up the city.
The annual Clearlake Clean Up Day drew nearly 100 people this year, including elected officials, volunteers, Clearlake Waste Solutions and city staff, according to City Manager Greg Folsom.
Folsom said the group spent Saturday morning picking up trash and cleaning various areas in Clearlake.
“This event is an annual tradition in the city of Clearlake which has been going on for many years as a way to start off the tourist season with a clean central business district,” according to event organizer, Clearlake Public Works Director Doug Herren.
Elected officials participating in the cleanup included Mayor Russ Perdock, Vice Mayor Bruno Sabatier, Councilman Phil Harris, Supervisor Jeff Smith and City Clerk Melissa Swanson.
Folsom, Fire Chief Willie Sapeta, acting Police Chief Tim Celli and many other city staff members also were active participants.
Mayor Perdock was very appreciative of the volunteers who came out stating, “It is such an inspiration to see so many people come out to spend their Saturday morning for the betterment of the community,” he said. “This is such a great city we live in. Thank you to all the volunteers and to the Citizens Caring 4 Clearlake who do such a great job for our city throughout the year.”
“I led my team down Lakeshore Drive from Austin Park to Redbud Park and to Old Highway 53 on one side of the street and returned to Austin Park on the other side of the street,” Folsom said. “We nearly filled a dump trailer that was being towed by Councilmember Phil Harris. I definitely encourage the businesses located along Lakeshore Drive to continue to keep Lakeshore looking as good as it did when we finished.”
