The East Region Town Hall, or ERTH, and Middle Region Town Hall, or MRTH, will meet on the first and second Wednesdays of the month, respectively.
On Wednesday, July 5, ERTH met at the Live Oak Senior Center in Clearlake Oaks. If you missed this meeting and the review of the proposed cannabis ordinance, you may want to attend the MRTH meeting on July 12 in Lucerne, where the proposed ordinance also will be reviewed.
The July 12 MRTH will meet at the Lucerne Alpine Senior Center, located at 3985 Country Club Drive. The meeting includes a special Brown Act training for town hall members by County Counsel Anita Grant at 5 p.m. The regular agenda will follow at 6 p.m.
Regular agenda items include: the proposed Dollar General store; review of the new proposed cannabis ordinance; a vote to accept the MRTH bylaws; a Lake County Transit stop at the senior center; stop signs at the corner of Country Club and Foothill; the vacant Lucerne visitor’s center; Lucerne water rates; 8) the Lucerne Hotel, also known as The Castle); crime watch; universal garbage pickup; and Lucerne Harbor plans.
District 3 Supervisor Jim Steele established the advisory councils for the purpose of obtaining input on items and issues particular to each major area of the district.
A third town hall council, the West Region Town Hall, or WRTH, is in the process of being established.
Each council meeting is one and a half hours long, during which the council hears agenda items and maintains a rolling agenda. The rolling agenda allows issues to continue into future meetings until the issues are resolved or removed by the council.
“In a district geographically larger than the other four districts combined and with the highest poverty rate in the county, these advisory council meetings are essential to good governance,” said Steele. “It’s important to hear from the community on items of interest, especially those that have a significant impact on our quality of life. I urge the community to provide input on the many problems we are trying to solve and to participate in this process.”
Council members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors. As such they follow the Brown Act meeting requirements and operate according to the bylaws established by each council.
Meetings are open to the public. During the public comment period, held at the beginning of the meeting, the public may speak briefly on any item not on the agenda. However, items presented during the public comment period cannot be discussed until they are properly noticed on a future agenda.
