KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – A Kelseyville man was killed early Wednesday after an intruder shot him while breaking into a home, the Lake County Sheriff's Office said.
Sgt. Corey Paulich said that on Wednesday at approximately 3:25 a.m. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 5000 block of State Street in Kelseyville for a report of an intruder in a residence.
It was also reported that one of the occupants of the residence had been shot by the intruder, Paulich said.
When deputies arrived, Paulich said they found a male in the residence who had died from an apparent gunshot wound. Detectives with the Lake County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and are conducting the investigation.
The person responsible for committing the shooting is described as a male, approximately 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches, wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt. Paulich said the subject was last seen running south from the residence.
The north end of State Street will be closed indefinitely due to the investigation. It is requested that the public avoid the area if possible, Paulich said.
Detectives were able to obtain photos of two persons of interest in this case, Paulich said.
The sheriff’s office also is requesting anyone who has surveillance video in the area of Gaddy Lane and State Street in Kelseyville to contact Detective Shamus Stafford at 707-262-4231.
